Earlier this month, a team of volunteers planted vegetable seeds and seedlings at the new Pleasantville Community Garden at St. John’s Episcopal Church in Pleasantville. All of the fresh produce from the garden will go to local food pantries.
Devin Juros, a Pleasantville 7th grader, founded the garden and has been working with his parents, David and Margot Juros, to recruit the 100 or so volunteers and make it all happen.
(That’s Devin, in the center in a white T-shirt.)
The land was cleared and fence posts were set at another volunteer day last month. (Margot sent me these photos from the June 7 planting day, when raised beds were also built and filled.)
Juros and his team plan to deliver the crops to Hillside Food Outreach and the Interfaith Community Pantry in Pleasantville. The home of the garden, St. John’s Episcopal Church in Pleasantville, is a partner in the project and has provided the land for the garden.
I’m not sure whether more volunteers are needed over the summer. Here is Margot’s contact info: 914-907-3837, Margot_hoffman@hotmail.com.

Happy gardening to Devin and his team of volunteers!
