Everyone’s been talking about what a warm fall we’ve had, but it looks like we’ll finally be getting our first frost tonight or in the next few days. Or maybe, depending on your elevation and mircro weather zone, you had one last night. Here are a few things to keep in mind:
If you haven’t done so already, all houseplants that spent the summer outside need to come indoors.
Bring in any annuals in pots (impatiens, geraniums, coleus etc.) that you want to save. Sometimes we don’t have another frost for a few more weeks.
Cover tender plants and growing beds with sheets or pillowcases. Once the sun is up, it should be safe to remove them.
Harvest all tender herbs, especially basil. Make pesto!
Pick any remaining tomatoes on the vine. Other tender vegetables, too. Fried green tomatoes are delicious, or set them on trays to ripen and turn red.
Enjoy the fall weather and happy gardening.
