Concerts
SUN, May 3  Parker String Quartet
America’s most exciting young quartet performs two masterworks for string quartet, Haydn’s Opus 76 No. 1 in G Major and Beethoven’s Opus 127 in E-Flat Major.

Flowering dogwood (Cornus florida): The native flowering dogwood makes a dazzling display  in mid spring. The long-lasting, white (or sometimes pink) “flowers” are actually bracts surrounding the tiny green true flowers in the middle. These are followed by red berries which are eagerly consumed by birds and other wildlife later in the year.

Katie Bill Cary grew up in Louisville, Ky. His gardening was limited to growing parsley and impatiens on the windowsill of Manhattan walkups until the mid-1990s when he bought a rundown old chicken farm on 8 acres in the Hudson Valley. Now he spends his weekends chasing deer, hacking away at invasive shrubs and vines and wondering why he doesn`t have more meadow and less lawn.
