Here’s a press release from Claire Flower (she swears it’s her real name) and Leah Kennel and the New Horizons Garden Club. Very clever idea — and note the rain gardens demo on Sunday:
“TXTNG w/ FLWRS
“If texting is a short form of people-to-people communication, then this weekend’s “TXTNG” show at Lasdon Park in Somers is a message between short flowers and people. Grab your BFF (Best Friend Forever) and come see what they’re saying at this Standard Petite Flower Show that runs Friday through Sunday, April 24-26.
Because the show is a petite one, the six categories of AWESO (Awesome) floral designs range from ATSITS (All The Stars In The Sky) with creative designs no bigger than eight inches, to @TEOTD (At The End Of The Day) a table for two set with mini plates and tiny flowers.
There will also be lots of naturally small flowers and dwarf plants in competitive classes, so expect to see top-of-the-line Trumpet Narcissus, striped Tulips, Grape Hyacinths, Succulents in rosette and vining varieties, and priceless potted Begonias, African Violets and other fruiting or flowering plants.
The show is presented by the award-winning New Horizons Garden Club and the exhibitors will be ATB (At Their Best). Even if you’re OTL (Out To Lunch) about flowers, you can always brush up on your TXTNG abbreviations — a glossary of them will be available in the show’s take-home program.
TTTT (These things take time) so plan to make a day of it and tour the beautiful 234 acre County park, arboretum and gift shop after the show.
And Sunday, don’t miss the demonstration on “How to Make a Rain Garden” at 2 PM.
TXTNG Flower Show is free and open to the public, Friday, 2 – 3:45 PM, and Saturday and Sunday, 11 AM – 3 PM. Lasdon Park and Arboretum is located on Route 35 in Somers, one mile west of I-684 Exit 6 and one mile east of the Taconic Parkway – Yorktown Exit. For more information call 914.864.7268.
