A Very Good Year for Dahlias

It seems to have been a particularly good year for dahlias.
Ed Bonci and his wife, Pam Jenson, said they had extras from their Eastchester back yard and decided to make a couple of bouquets for me and my co-workers. What a treat.

Bill Cary grew up in Louisville, Ky. His gardening was limited to growing parsley and impatiens on the windowsill of Manhattan walkups until the mid-1990s when he bought a rundown old chicken farm on 8 acres in the Hudson Valley. Now he spends his weekends chasing deer, hacking away at invasive shrubs and vines and wondering why he doesn`t have more meadow and less lawn.
I also had the good fortune of the benefit of a bouquet of dahlias. They were lovely and lasted 8 days in a vase. Ed and Pam are to be complimented on their talents. Of course, as we all know, none of this would have been possible without the understanding and patience of that sweet Emma. Gil Castellano
