Like other stars on the Great White Way, a new Shasta daisy known as ‘Broadway Lights’ has tons of wattage and a chameleonlike ability to change its looks. Its blooms open bright yellow, fade to a soft buttercream shade and mature pure white.
At the height of its midsummer bloom time, you’ll find this prolific bloomer covered in all three shades.
Known botanically as Leucanthemum x maximum ‘Broadway Lights,’ this no-fuss hardy perennial from Proven Winners likes full sun and well-drained ordinary garden soil. Deadhead it regularly to extend its bloom time.
Like other Shasta daisies, it’s deer resistant and drought tolerant. Just keep it well watered its first year.
And like other Shastas, ‘Broadway Lights’ mixes well with most plants in a perennial border. Good companions include echinacea, salvia, butterfly bush, ornamental grasses and lilies. Or try it right on the edge of a wildflower meadow.
Within a couple of years, this clump former will be about 2 feet wide with blooms about 18 inches tall.
